Duties

Help
  • You will approve instructions, procedures, policies, and practices to ensure requirements of laboratory programs are met.
  • You will calibrate and perform limited maintenance or repair to laboratory test equipment.
  • You will evaluate classroom and practical ability training and examination for adequacy, accuracy, effectiveness, and adherence to standards.
  • You will converse with other personnel on matters not understood or not covered by instructions, guides, or tests.
  • You will offer technical guidance to others in the accomplishment of assigned tasks.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

GS-11:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing laboratory/computer equipment to support the design, fabrication or testing of mechanical and/or electronic components; 2) Interacting with faculty, staff or students to plan and carry out technical projects associated with physical science or engineering fields; and 3) Performing administrative tasks to document technically complex information using word processing and spreadsheet programs.

GS-09:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting with the design, fabrication or testing of mechanical and/or electronic components; 2) Interacting with faculty, staff or students to carry out technical projects associated with physical science or engineering fields; and 3) Assisting with administrative tasks to document information using word processing and spreadsheet programs.

Physical Demands:Physical activity includes walking, stooping, bending, climbing, and lifting. The ability to perform unassisted lifting to 40 lbs. is required. Cannot be colorblind.

Work Environment:Work is primarily conducted in a lab and involves risks associated with exposure to hazardous chemicals and high voltages in electronic equipment. The work also requires exposure to potential laser and high noise hazards. This exposure may require the use of personal protective equipment such as chemical safety goggles, protective clothing, and/or rubber gloves.
