Duties

Help
  • Reviews, research, and analyzes data obtained from numerous sources such as Armed Forces Billing and Collection Utilization Solution (ABACUS) and MHS GENESIS to identify billable encounters.
  • Determines the validity of an encounter and prepares medical billing for services provided in Military Treatment Facility (MTF) for a vast variety of payers.
  • Examines accounts to resolve difficult reconciliations requiring an analysis of adjustments and corrective entries.
  • Monitors Accounts Receivable by tracking payments, examining outstanding balances, reconciling adjustments, and aging accounts and conducting follow-up on delinquent claims, in accordance with DoD directives.
  • Reviews record of insurance information, validates coverage and policy benefits and ensures data is updated in appropriate system (s).
  • Assists with or conducts training on program requirements.
  • Account maintenance and accounting support work requiring a basic understanding of accounting systems, policies, and procedures to examine, verify and maintain and reconcile accounts and accounting data, prepare and analyze reports.
  • Technical work in support of the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit and custody of cash items which includes handling cash items or use of cash accountability control methods.
  • Determining pay, payroll records maintenance and completion of reports pertaining to civilian employees of the Federal Government.
  • Performs technician work in support of budget analysis and administration such as maintain ledgers, budget formulation, compiling, consolidating, checking and arranging funding data.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires to obtain and maintain a Financial Management Level 1 Certification within 24 months of employment.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • All employees assigned to a Medical Treatment Facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations regardless of series, based on occupational risk, and are subject to missing/required immunizations IAW AR 40-562, chapters 3 and 4.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Managing, allocating, and monitoring financial resources in compliance with laws, regulations, and policies; 2) Applying knowledge of procedures required to examine invoices, vouchers, and related budget/accounting documents; and 3) Verifying, maintaining, and reconciling accounts and accounting data to analyze and prepare reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
