This position is Regular Part Time (RPT), guaranteed 20 hours a week with potential to a maximum of 40 hours per week. You may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. RPT employees are eligible to earn annual and sick leave as well as benefits including Health/Dental and Life Insurance, 401k and Retirement.

Duties

Help

perform seasonal gardening tasks such as fertilizing, preparing seedbeds, transplanting, laying sod, aerating, pruning, trimming, and applying chemicals to plants according to directions. Applies fertilizers evenly to avoid underfeeding or burning plants. Prepares soil from instructions on the proper mixture of such materials as sand, humus, topsoil, and fertilizers. Places seeds and plants in soil at proper depth, taking care not to damage roots while transplanting. Lays sod, aerates lawns, and prunes and trims shrubs and hedges for neat appearance. May harvest, label, and store seeds and bulbs for later use. Uses a variety of hand- and power-operated garden tools and equipment such as seeders, spreaders, edgers, hedge trimmers, pruning shears, and sprayers. Perform other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:
Must have general knowledge of landscaping, and the ability to apply knowledge to specific tasks associated with planting, resodding, watering, spraying, fertilizing, cutting, pruning, trimming, etc. Must be able to operate and clean hand and power operated gardening tools and equipment. Must be able to follow written and/or oral instructions. Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry heavy objects weighing 100 pounds. Must be able to actively walk, stand, push, bend, stoop, climb and work in awkward position, must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
