Duties

Help
  • Perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage.
  • Enforce the security regulations of the installation.
  • Control access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation.
  • Verify identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics automated records, verbal questioning, and other means.
  • Admit persons, denies entry or arranges for escorts, as appropriate.
  • Conduct vehicle searches and inspections.
  • Conduct foot or vehicle patrol of perimeters, roadways, parking and other high traffic areas.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Required to complete a pre-employment physical examination of physical, emotional and mental stability and annually thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Position is designated as drug testing-designated. Will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug test and random testing thereafter. Will be required to sign the DA Form 5019 Conditions of Employment.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". Would be required to report and/or stay at your place of duty in the event of a natural disaster, extreme weather situation or other emergency situations.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. Individuals who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot qualify for this position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position will require the incumbent to pass the primary physical fitness/agility test (PAT) within 30 days of employment and an annual one thereafter. This requires running 1.5 miles in 17.30 minutes and performing 19 push-ups in 2 minutes.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and /or protective clothing and equipment.
  • This position requires certification in the Individual Reliability Program. Employee is expected to maintain a high standard of conduct and will be assessed for social adjustment, sound judgement and the ability to work under pressure.
  • This position will require CPR certification and First Aid training.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Incumbent must pass annual pepper spray and/or taser certification if issued to personnel.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved controlling access to restricted areas, patrolling, maintaining order and protecting life or property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
