Help
  • Responsible for several multiple-purpose Project Offices, each of which may administer thousands of miles of shoreline and thousands of acres of public land and water, and one or more of which may include a hydro-power plant.
  • Advise field project/Natural Resource Specialists in matters regarding conserving natural resources consistent with ecosystem management principles and adherence to sound environmental stewardship, protection, compliance, and restoration practices.
  • Provide advice and determine operating procedures for unique problems, controversial issues, new policies, and other matters which have a wide ranging impact on the natural resources at water resource projects.
  • Serves as the Environmental Stewardship Business Line Manager over several Project Offices over a wide geographic area with technical expertise to: (1) Manager the District Environment Stewardship budget.
  • Provides guidance and coordinates with field offices on operating procedures to assure compliance with statutory requirements of all applicable environmental and cultural/historical laws and regulations.
  • Frequently participates with Real Estate and field personnel to ensure compliance with established policies and guidelines
  • Monitors project administration of land use permits, surveillance of lands and water and encroachment prevention.
  • Advises and coordinates with field offices on activities for protection of threatened/endangered species.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for a 401 - Natural Resource Specialist

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

GS-11 Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Analyzing various changes in wildlife and natural resources; OR 2) Conducting annual inspections of project land. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

GS-12 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.) Provide oversight with environmental stewardship programs ; AND 2.) Reviewing polices and guidelines regarding resource protection to ensure agency is in compliance; OR 3.) Monitoring the utilization of a budget. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
