Summary

This position is located in the Division of Research Programs, Office of Assistant Chair for Programs, National Endowment for the Humanities. The Division of Research Programs is designed to promote original research in all disciplines of the humanities and humanistic social sciences through grants to scholars and academic institutions.

Duties

Help

  • Reviews grant proposals and assess eligibility and consistency with Endowment goals.
  • Arranges for review and evaluation of grant proposals by peer review panelists.
  • Presents Division policies, procedures, and funding recommendations orally and in writing to internal and external audiences.
  • Promotes the work of the Division and larger goals of the Endowment to outside constituents.
  • Works collaboratively with other Division staff members to accomplish these duties.

At the GS-12 level Qualified candidates must possess:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level or equivalent experience.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example: (1) reviewing grant making activities; (2) assisting with collecting, analyzing data, and identifying ways to foster public engagement in humanities; (3) attending panel meetings and chairing them as requested; (4) assisting programs by working in higher education, programming or research position in a library, archive, or university press.
At the GS-13 level Qualified candidates must possess:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level or equivalent experience.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example: (1) overseeing grant making activities; collecting, analyzing data, and identifying ways to foster public engagement in humanities; attending panel meetings and chairing them as requested; initiating and maintaining connections with individuals and cultural, educational, and other institutions and organizations; leading programs by working in higher education, programming or research position in a library, archive, or university press.

We are recruiting for 3 positions as Humanities Administrators within the Division of Research Programs. The Humanities Administrators will be in the following concentrations.
  • Humanities Administrator (British Literature) - 19th- and 20th-century British Literature, with a preference for colonial or post-colonial studies.
  • Humanities Administrator (American Literature) - American Literature, with a preference for multi-ethnic literature and Communications or Rhetoric experience.
  • Humanities Administrator (Continental European Studies - Renaissance) - Continental European Studies, with a preference for Renaissance through Enlightenment periods and Art History experience

Education

A Master's degree in a discipline of the humanities is required (a Ph.D. is preferred).

1. Veterans' preference rules does not apply to this position however, veterans who are deemed best qualified will receive consideration amongt other candidates. 5. The salary range above reflects the Washington DC Locality pay, salary may be adjusted based on the negotiated location upon selection.
