Help
  • Serve as a Geospatial Information System (GIS) expert using the latest computer technology and systems and ever-evolving software and procedures to accomplish work in the most efficient manner.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement digital data and mapping (raster and vector) in the area of remote sensing, photogrammetry, GIS, topography and land surveying utilizing up-to-date methodology, practices and equipment.
  • Apply professional judgment, technical skills and knowledge to analyze, interpret and correlate data of a broad nature and with complex variables.
  • Evaluate the availability and technical adequacy of existing digital data generated by other Government agencies, state agencies, private sector and learning institutions for sufficiency and applicability on district projects.
  • Develop cadastral products such as maps and descriptions of property, analysis, and tabular information to support planning activities and real estate transactions.
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver geospatial and database driven applications for access to customers at a variety of levels using a variety of platforms.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Geographer: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Coordinate geospatial information systems in accordance with policies and standards; AND 2) Develop, maintain, and perform quality assurance on GIS datasets, products, and applications; AND 3) Develop or review cartographic products, legal descriptions, or survey products to meet organization objectives and mission requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
