Duties

Help

Directs day-to-day operations of all Senate Appointment Desks; managing and supervising staff recruitment, hiring, training, motivation, evaluations and recommends discipline processes as necessary. Implements objectives and policies established by the Sergeant at Arms or his/her designees; participates in the formulation and implementation of short- and long-range goals. Develops standards, policies and procedures for the Senate Appointment Desk staff and implements and monitors annual department budget. Ensures established protocol and rules are followed when visitors are escorted into the Senate wing of the Capitol, Capitol Visitors Center and Senate Buildings. Provides training and guidance to the Senate Community on proper usage and identification of official business visitor badges and the visitor clearance system. Interacts with Senate personal and Committee staff, other SAA offices, and other Senate Community partners. Other duties as assigned

Other Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Escorts visiting dignitaries and high-level government officials to various Capitol locations and assists with special events in the Capitol Complex.

Required Work Experience

  • 8-10 years of professional experience in the legislative branch including management experience, involving public contact and customer service.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Word & Excel.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a CPR/AED certification upon hire or within first three months and must have extensive knowledge of the Senate, Senate Rules and protocol.

Working Conditions

  • Work performed in open public spaces/requires frequent quick movement between desks locations and other areas of complex. 
  • Frequent standing, walking and exposure to noise associated with a constant flow of visitors. 
  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government  furloughs, this position is considered excepted.

Education

Bachelor’s degree.
