Duties

Help
  • Develop State intergovernmental relations to develop important public policies or programs.
  • Establish relationships with State officials to educate them on issues important to the needs of service members and their families.
  • Provide strategic planning for implementation of State legislative policies addressing the needs of service members and their families.
  • Aid policy makers in interpreting and analyzing policy problems of national significance.
  • Provide testimony before principal members of state, federal or local level legislative committees.
  • Conduct briefings addressing proposed changes to state laws and/or regulations of programs addressing the needs of service members and their families.
  • Conduct special assignments on complex high-priority issues in which the scope frequently alters as the work progresses.
  • Conduct research to assess the impact of policies and/or statutes on the organizations issues and/or initiatives.
  • Interpret agency policy statements, basic legislation and/or public law to develop objectives advancing programs in support of service member and their families.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes collaborating with State officials (i.e. Governors, Cabinet-level officials, legislators, and The Adjutants General) to assist in developing quality of life policies and related legislative actions, educating State officials on the statutory, policy and/or organizational issues important to the mission, conducting research, and/or studies to assess the impact of policies and statutes, tracking state legislation initiatives, and maintaining project, program, and/or administrative database systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
