Duties

Help
  • Inform leadership and subordinates on technical tools, methodologies, and resources used for conducting studies and analyzing classified and unclassified information.
  • Identify, create, and employ the appropriate statistical, algorithmic, mining, forecasting, predictive, and visualization techniques.
  • Prepare reports and creates/delivers presentations to the organization, senior leaders, and other external groups. Coordinates completed studies and analyses with the supported organization, and other services or agencies as needed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for a Data Scientist:

A. Degree: bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.
The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. (Transcripts required at the time of application.)

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. (Transcripts required at the time of application.)

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: generate algorithms, tools and processes to support data and findings; present authoritative reports, position papers and briefings to the organization and other officials; evaluate data results from various mathematical procedures to solve issues.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
