Duties

Help
  • Counsel military personnel from all branches of the uniformed services, retirees and families being processed through Army Physical Disability Evaluation System (APDES).
  • Assist in referring Soldier's case appeals for impartial medical reviews, rebuttals, and coordinate the assignment of Soldier Medical Evaluation Counselor (SMEBC) services.
  • Refer personnel to appropriate agencies to obtain counseling/guidance on benefits provided by Department of Labor, Social Security Administration and Veterans Affairs (VA).
  • Train installation leadership on issues relevant to APDES on their rights, benefits, privileges, expectations, and obligations.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Service member, their command and a multi- disciplinary medical team, medical care case managers, non-medical case managers, patient administration personnel, and the Physical Evaluation Board.
  • Obtain and forward required records for Service Members to VA Medical Service Coordinator, Medical Evaluation Board, Informal Physical Evaluation Board, Formal Medical Evaluation Board, and other Integrated Disability Evaluation System stakeholders.

  • A favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) may be required for this position.
  • All employees assigned to the Military Treatment Facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations regardless of series, based on occupational risk, and are subject to missing/required immunizations IAW AR 40-562, Ch. 3 and 4.
  • Physical exam may be required.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete the 61—F4/340-F3 Training and Certification Course within 180 days of their appointment and annually thereafter.

In order to qualify, you must meet education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: advising personnel in all phases of a medical evaluation process; coordinating appointments or reviewing medical records for completeness; and preparing statistical reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
