  • You will be responsible for the 24/7 support of systems used to retrieve, process and utilize remotely sensed data at all classification levels.
  • You will be responsible for exploiting remotely sensed data to advance numerical modeling, tactical imagery and products and identifying and acquiring new data.
  • You will be leading interagency groups on planning for future satellite remote sensing capabilities and providing detailed budget reports and analysis on current and future programs.
  • You will develop and defend U.S. Navy remote sensing requirements in writing and in meetings, and coordinate with a scientist and programs to design and vet future remote sensing capabilities including data formats and retrieval systems.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (see Education section), your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

*Experience applying advanced theoretical remote sensing techniques, space communication systems, electromagnetic spectrum, including the dynamics of space and atmospheric interaction, meteorology and the application of computer methods of numerical weather analysis and prediction sufficient to place and format the data accordingly for a particular data communication protocol.
*Experience utilizing theories, methods, and techniques of professional physics sufficient to serve as a staff specialist working to improve forecast guidance and the performance of tactical decision aids for one or more of the major product areas.
*Experience utilizing comprehensive knowledge of automated control processing theory as it applies to satellite remote sensing and large data sets.
*Experience applying comprehensive knowledge of satellite communication, their sensors, the algorithms used to produce environmental estimates, and the products derived from meteorology, oceanography, satellite sensor produced data in order to create sensor data units and convert them back to raw counts to include use of ancillary data.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.

Basic Requirements:

  1. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
