Help

As the Chief, Research and Scholarship Division, supervises research and assessment programs to meet the Superintendent's USAF Academy mission objectives and to serve the USAF Academy by advancing the development of Leaders of Character for our Nation. Exemplifies the traits of a leader of character through service as the Research and Scholarship Division Chief. Leads division personnel to accomplish USAFA's Character and Leadership Development strategic goals and to develop Leaders of Character for the Nation. Oversees the research and assessment program. Leads, encourages, advises, and monitors researchers and assessors who contribute to strategic goals. Maintains a research agenda. Oversees the assessment of programs and contributes to institutional assessment of USAFA outcomes and strategic goals. As resources permit, oversees the publication of the Journal of Character and Leadership Development. Supports senior scholars, visiting researchers, and Foundation relations. When tasked, participates in faculty and academic program governance in order to promote equities. As resources permit, oversees the Profession of Arms Speaker Series. Initiates and conducts a program of research in character and leadership that contributes to the body of knowledge. Prepares manuscripts and/or presentations containing the findings of research or scholarly study suitable for refereed publication or other distribution. Pursues scholarly activities and professional accomplishments through membership in professional societies and participation in conferences or other appropriate activities in order to maintain professional and academic currency in area of specialization or education, including character and leadership. Develops and maintains associations with leaders in the field, both nationally and internationally. Instructs and mentors permanent party and cadets. Creates lessons plans, delivers content, and assesses learning of the audience. Develops and delivers well-organized instruction in appropriate format in character and leadership development and/or accredited academic courses.

Teaches cadets in academic and military training courses and programs to advance the understanding, sharing, practice, and integration of character and leadership development. Counsels, coaches, mentors, and evaluates permanent party and cadets. Provides advice and counsel to improve the quality of education programs. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel regarding policies, procedures, and directives of higher-level management or headquarters. Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignment in consideration of skills, qualifications, and mission requirements. Develops, modifies, and/or interprets performance standards. Explains performance expectations to supervised employees and provides regular feedback on strengths, and weaknesses. Holds supervised employees responsible for the satisfactory completion of work assignments. Appraises subordinate workers' performance ensuring consistency and equity in rating techniques. Initiates action to correct performance or conduct problems. Fosters a climate of dignity and respect.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Behavioral & Social Science, Psychology Research Methods, Educational Assessment, or another related field. Minimum of three years supervisory experience.

ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES:
Behavioral & Social Science, Psychology, Research Methods, Educational Assessment, or another related field.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A terminal degree in Behavioral & Social Science, Psychology Research Methods, Educational Assessment, or another related field. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Five years or more supervisory experience.

Candidates will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.

Leadership experience in curriculum development and academic assessment is desired.

Applicants will be assessed based on education, evidence of teaching effectiveness, quality of scholarship, and demonstrated service to educational institutions and the discipline commensurate with years in the discipline.

EDUCATION:
If selected, you will be requested to provide original copies of ALL OFFICIAL transcripts for degrees being pursued or obtained (or letter of degree completion if an OFFICIAL transcript is not available due to recent graduation) to support your educational claims as stated in your curriculum vitae. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a transcript to be considered OFFICIAL, it should be printed on university letterhead and the registrar's official seal/signature must appear on the transcript. Your transcripts must also reflect the degree awarded/conferred date. Transcripts labeled UNOFFICIAL will not be accepted.

Upon request, ensure you include ALL transcripts to support your educational claims as stated in your curriculum vitae (resume) even if not required for this position.

FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.
