Duties

Help

  • Performs research or other professional and scientific work related to investigation, analysis, and interpretation of the composition, physical and chemical properties, molecular structure and chemical reactions of substances; the prediction of transformation they undergo; and the amount of matter and energy included in these transformations.
  • Performs analysis and uses systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable approaches to manage projects.
  • Determines how best to accomplish chemistry objectives, develops and evaluates alternatives, designs and conducts experiments, analyzes and interpret results, publishes papers and technical reports, delivers presentations of results, and monitors in-house activities.
  • Prepares contractual documents, technical reports, and/or evaluate technical proposals if needed.
  • Develops and maintains collaborations within and outside of AFRL.

  • The employee must, within 30-days of assuming this position and by 31 October annually thereafter, file an OGE-450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report. Employee is required to attend annual ethics and procurement integrity training.
  • This is an acquisition coded position. Selectee must complete required certification level 1 in Engineering and Technical Management within 24 months of assignment.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions and Individual Occupational Requirements for Chemistry Series, 1320 positions.

To qualify for this position, you must possess a degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

OR a combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in the above, including 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

AND you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the DR-1 (GS-11) broadband. Specialized experience may be performing research through investigation and analysis of molecular structure, designing and conducting experiments, or delivering presentations of results.
