Duties

Help

As a Education Specialist, you will:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee education program plans, policies, and procedures for the White House Decision Center (WHDC) and work with a variety of other family and youth education programs of the Library. This includes overseeing the scheduling and training of the WHDC teacher cadre and promoting the WHDC to schools, adult groups, and other community groups.
  • Conduct research, and develop and publish curriculum and teacher study guides for grades Kindergarten through 12 (K-12) relative to Harry S. Truman and his times.
  • Work cooperatively with other professional education and program staff to prepare proposals to obtain external support, cooperation, and sponsorship from various private and government organizations.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of museum education programs for K-12 school groups visiting the Library and in public and private schools in Missouri, Kansas, and nationwide.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of programs (conferences, seminars, workshops, etc.) for secondary school students and teachers, and for college and university students and professors.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

To qualify for this position at the GS-11 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience must include.

  • Designing and facilitating professional development programs for educators at the K-16 level that includes best practices for integrating primary resources and archival material into classroom instruction; AND
  • Creating educational curriculum that integrates primary resources and archival materials for students at the K-16 level; AND
  • Leading volunteers, interns, or non-paid staff in the performance of presenting educational material.
OR
  • 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree;
OR
  • A combination of education and experience: Graduate level education in excess of the first two years (36 hours or more) can be combined to meet the experience. One year of full-time graduate education is considered 18 semester hours. Example: Six-months of appropriate specialized experience equivalent to GS-9 and 36 semester hours of appropriate education, equal 100% qualifying experience.



In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F):
For the GS-11, you must have been at the GS-09level for 52 weeks.

Education

Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Basic Education Requirement:

1. Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.
OR
2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
