Duties

Help
  • You will serve as the Linux Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) for the FLENUMMETOCCEN Scientific LAN (FSL) Linux servers and desktop systems.
  • You will ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all FLENUMMETOCCEN Red hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) based information systems, networks and data
  • You will manage the Linux workstation and server installation.
  • You will conduct risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed information systems to identify vulnerabilities, risks, and protection needs.
  • You will evaluate and make recommendations on acquisition, implementation, and dissemination of CS security tools, procedures, and practices.
  • You will draft proposed policy, guidance, and procedures; apply information security principles, policies, and procedures to ensure IS reliability and accessibility and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data.
  • You will administer, monitor, and/or evaluate the implementation of authentication software or new security authentication technologies.

Qualifications

Applicants must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies or knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience is typically in or directly relates to the work of the position to be filled. You must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
In addition to the four competencies above, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:
  • Experience performing specific cyber information technology tasks of audit log analysis, vulnerability management, endpoint security, user access control, and Linux systems administration;
  • Experience performing risk management processes, secure configuration management techniques, Government laws and policies, cyber threats and vulnerabilities, encryption algorithms, host/network access control mechanisms, vulnerability information dissemination sources, Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data security standards, network authentication identity and access management, intrusion detection methodologies and techniques for detecting host and network-based intrusions, and organization's risk tolerance and/or risk management approach;
  • Experience evaluating adequacy of security design, using protocol analyzers, collecting data from a variety of cyber resources, recognizing and categorizing types of vulnerabilities, interpreting vulnerability scanner results to identify vulnerabilities, assessing cloud security measures and microservices, running Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) content and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGS) based tools for benchmark, conducting trends analysis, and security configuration reviews; and
  • Experience identifying systemic security issues based on the analysis of vulnerability and configuration data, apply cybersecurity and privacy principles to organizational requirements (relevant to confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, non-repudiation), conduct vulnerability scans and recognize vulnerabilities in security systems, and interpret the information collected by network tools.
