Duties

  • You will supervise two specialists, a claims assistant, and manage day-to-day operation of the office claims office.
  • You will respond to routine and technical requests for information.
  • You will assist attorneys and paralegals in researching case law, administrative law, federal and status statutes, and other regulations, directives, notices, and manuals.
  • You will answer incoming phone calls and inquires from visitors.
  • You will independently control and manage all incoming correspondence using established office procedures and knowledge of the organization.
  • You will plan work, sets priorities and schedule work as necessary.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Examples of specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Identifying a need for and knows where or how to gather information; organizes and maintains information or information management systems; 2) Performing work that supervises, leads, or performs legal assistance work that requires specialized knowledge of processes, procedures, and practices to support legal activities; 3) Researching or special study techniques to provide analysis of a variety of topics; 4) Understanding and interpreting technical material, rules, regulations, and instructions; applies to specific situations; 5) Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, legal practices and documents, Government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, Government organization and functions.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

or

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

or

LL.M., if related
