Duties

Help
  • Inspect reusable medical supplies and/or instruments for damage.
  • Monitor operation of sterilizer with prescribed tests.
  • Prepare contaminated surgical items for sterilization procedures.
  • Determine type of medical tray/set needed based on clinic schedule.
  • Keep records of medical supply inventory to determine reordering need.

  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be screened for applicable immunizations.
  • This is an Inclement Weather Essential position; you must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Heavy lifting in excess of 45 pounds is required.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal government which includes demonstrated experience assembling medical instrument trays; wrapping and labeling instrument sets in preparation for the sterilization process; checking supplies to ensure required compliance; AND decontaminating the full range of reusable medical supplies and equipment used within the assigned area.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
