Duties

Help

Assists assigned personnel in all areas of the Arts & Crafts Program. Operates a variety of equipment in assigned area, to include computerized laser engravers, computerized embroidery machine, copiers, lettering machines, heat presses, air brushes, mat cutters, choppers, and power tools. Responsible for operating the cash register, collects money, makes change, and issues receipts. At the end of each shift, closes out the cash register, completes required paperwork and submits entire package to supervisor. Assists customers in placing special orders. Maintains security of all merchandise, equipment and funds assigned. Provides customer service, answers telephone assists shop users with crafts knowledge development and work procedures. With guidance from the supervisor, provides demonstrations and guidance on crafts. Maintains clean, neat, and safe work area. Performs other related duties and assists facility supervisor as requested.

Use tact and courtesy when dealing with internal and external customers. Within a reasonable time, become familiar with the activity and its operations and facilities. Within a reasonable time, be able to work independently with little or no need for additional supervision or help. Make efficient use of materials and take proper care of facilities, supplies and equipment. Maintain sanitary standards by following established procedures. Carry out oral and written instructions in an acceptable manner. Maintain safety standards by following established guidelines and procedures.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:
Experience with fabric crafts, calligraphy and or lettering machines, engraving, glass crafts and mat cutting is desired, but not required. Must be able to read, write, spell and figure basic math and measurements. Must have a basic working knowledge in computer operations. Must have a clear speaking voice and be able to deal with the public. May work uncommon work schedule, including weekends. Requires continuous standing, walking, and stooping. Subject to metal and wood splinters, adhesives, paint fumes, cuts, burns, and bruises. Must be physically able to lift and carry items up to and including 50 pounds. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Completion of a National Agency Check for email and internet access is required.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position DOES NOT allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
