Duties

Help
  • Operate one or more types of equipment to push, pull, pile, or load materials such as sand, gravel, earth, or refuse.
  • Utilize equipment which is fitted with a front-end loader to maneuver to a specific spot to transfer material into a dump truck.
  • Clear brush, tree stumps, and rocks; adjust the attachments for proper level, angel, or depth, according to the work to be done and the type of equipment being operated.
  • Perform operator maintenance on any and all equipment operate.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common duties of engineering equipment operator clearing brush, tree stumps, and rocks; adjusting the attachments for proper level, angel, or depth, according to the work to be done and the type of equipment being operated. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Selective Placement Factor: This position requires the incumbent to possess a Class A or Class B commercial driver's license. Note: Copy of Class A or Class B commercial driver's license must be uploaded.

Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is used by the operators in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Because of the location of some of the controls and attachments, the operators are frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions.

Working Conditions:Work is performed in all types of weather, often in an open driver's seat or platform, on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. The operators are exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning. They are subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust.

  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
