Duties

Help
  • Repair test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) according to procedures.
  • Review work operations for status and progress, causes of delays, and/or other problems.
  • Apply knowledge of metrology, electrical, electronic, electromagnetic theories, mechanical, pneumatic, and/or nuclear science to the collection of measurement data for equipment repairs.
  • Determine work method in accordance with prescribed calibration procedures available such as calibration standards, equipment specifications, technical data and electronic principles and practices.
  • Determine and apply proper TMDE work methods in accordance with rules, regulations and procedures.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds.
  • TDY may be required up to 10% of the time.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) PRECISION MEASUREMENT EQUIPMENT CALIBRATOR LEADER ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks including experience leading employees, under close supervision, in accomplishing calibration and repair support test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). I am able to pass along guidance to employees from supervisors. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work may require long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage, high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission. The duties and responsibilities of this position do not require the incumbent to exercise judgment in making or recommending a government decision, or in taking or recommending a government action in regard to contracting, procurement, auditing, or other responsibilities in which the decision or action has an economic impact on the interests of any nonfederal enterprise. Therefore, the incumbent of this position will not be required to file SF 450, Confidential Statement of Affiliations and Financial Interests.
