Duties

Help
  • Conducts investigations to apprehend and/or detain persons committing crimes against persons and property.
  • Analyzes data to identify suspects and develop case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspects to trial.
  • Interviews witnesses, suspects, and victims, and obtains statements containing information concerning the incident.
  • Initiates Police Reports for the arrest of a service member by civil law enforcement authorities for the edification of the command.
  • Assists in serving outstanding arrest warrants or civil court documents by accompanying law enforcement personnel to facilitate serving legal documents (e.g., warrant subpoenas, civil papers, repossession orders, etc.).
  • Responsible for the proper documentary control of the safe and secure storage of all evidence obtained during investigations, raids, etc.
  • Maintains continuous accountability reports ensuring that items are properly marked, recorded, stored, issued, turned-in, and returned to owner or disposed of by authorization of proper authority.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position. Incumbent is subject to removal from the position if convicted of a felony.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes i.e. weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Must graduate from the USAMPS Military Police Investigator Course within one year of hire.
  • Successful graduation from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Satisfactorily pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: Assist with conducting investigations into alleged or suspected violations of criminal laws and military regulations in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and policies; responding to crime scenes to collect and preserve evidence; Preparing and presenting written and oral reports to include investigation findings and recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education
