Duties

Help
  • Operate a computer keyboard console to activate target mechanisms.
  • Perform direct and general support level maintenance on remote electronic target systems (RETS) in the field and in a shop environment.
  • Inspect, test, and calibrate targets, target devices and simulators.
  • Perform required maintenance/adjustments (i.e., organizational field maintenance) for various electromechanical target devices such as target holding mechanisms, tank gunnery and hostile Fire simulators.
  • Maintain firing ranges by painting, cutting grass, repairing/patching target, and railroad ties, mixing concrete, and cutting wooden targets from templates.
  • Utilize multi meters and other electronic testing tools to service and perform electronic test and repairs.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the ability obtain and maintain valid military driver's licensure to operate federal government motor vehicles.
  • This position has a heavy lifting requirement of 75 pounds.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Incumbent must pass pre-employment medical examination.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • This position is subject to an irregular tour of duty to cover 24 hour-a-day, 7-days-a-week range operation with rotating shifts to include weekends and holidays.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are subject to work both planned and unscheduled irregular tours of duty to support 24/7 operations, which includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This is an Inclement Weather Essential position; you must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • You may be required to sign a Statement of Understanding if you are selected for this position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Target Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Such work includes demonstrated experience performing electronic, electrical, hydraulic, or mechanical tests and maintenance functions to maintain the functionality and serviceability of mechanical and/or electrical devices - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.



PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Requires frequent lifting, positioning, and carrying of target mechanism, tools and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Items weighing in excess of 75 pounds normally involve more than one person. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, working in cramped positions, and climbing up and down a steep flight of stairs to reach a 30-foot control tower. Requires prolonged standing on concrete floors and walking over rough and uneven terrain.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside during all types of weather conditions. Stands on concrete floors and works on ranges in rough terrain. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives. May be exposed to sulfuric acid when handling batteries used in operating remotely controlled target devices. Is exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts, burns, electrical shock, falls from a 30-foot tower and explosions. Hoffman devices contain explosive charges equivalent to 1/4-pound charge of TNT. Hearing protective devices, hard hats with face shield, and other safety equipment and devices are issued or available for use.
