Summary

This medical support position is located in the Clinical Center Nursing Department (CCND) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Clinical Center (CC), in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Medical Support Assistant reports directly to a Nurse Manager for a patient care area within the CCND. As a Medical Support Assistant, you will be responsible for a wide variety of clerical, research support, patient care support, and administrative duties.

Duties

Help

The major duties for the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for a wide variety of clerical and administrative duties in support of the NIH Clinical Center.
  • Serve as an information resource for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Interview patients for inpatient admission or outpatient registration.
  • Enter information into the medical information system.
  • Schedule patient appointments.
  • Maintain patient medical records.
  • Compile data for reports.
  • Utilize software applications to enter and compile data and to create reports, correspondence, requisitions, etc.
  • Develops/maintains effective and efficient communication with the patient, family and interdisciplinary team.
  • Prepare and stock patient exam rooms.
  • Performs quality checks for accuracy of patient information as it is entered into the electronic medical record.
  • Evaluate all incoming communications and determine if an urgent response if required, record messages accurately.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-07 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: screening and entering patient responses into a medical records system; relaying pertinent patient information to medical staff; creating physician appointment schedules using an electronic scheduling system; and performing quality checks for accuracy of patient information as it is entered into the medical records system.

You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
