The position is located in the Vehicle
Management Division of the Office of Facilities and Logistics, Office of Logistical
Services, Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, United States Capitol
Police (USCP). The incumbent performs the full range of mechanical repairs,
services and adjustments to a wide variety of fleet vehicles, performs
preventive maintenance and installs and removes police emergency equipment and
accessories.
Performs the full range of repairs, services and adjustments
to a wide range of fleet vehicles including trucks, vans, buses, special bomb
and hazmat vehicles, light towers, message centers, trailers and all United States
Capitol Police (USCP) equipment. Duties include diagnosing and performing
repairs to electrical and ignition, heating and air conditioning, steering and
suspension, wheels, axles and brakes, engines and transmissions, and fuel and
injection systems and reviewing completed work for quality.
Uses a wide variety of test equipment to trace, diagnose, and
locate defects and determine the type and extent of repairs required and
disassembles, inspects and rebuilds components in completing tasks. Serves as primary
installer, repair and service mechanic for fleet emergency equipment including
emergency lighting, mobile telephones, sirens, radios, shot gun racks, alarm
systems, and switch panels. Performs preventive maintenance and service
inspections. Performs extensive repair of bicycles.
You must be a U.S. Citizen.
Successful completion of a Background Investigation is required.
Must complete a one year probationary period.
This position requires a current valid driver's license.
Shift work may be required for the position.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.
For
CP-07/GS-09: Applicants qualifying for the CP-07/GS-09 level includes one (1)
year/52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least CP-06/GS-08
level. Specialized experience consists of: working on automotive repairs such
as overhauling major components, replacing defective parts, adjusting brakes,
engine idle, voltage or valves; troubleshooting, repair diagnoses; or servicing
heat and/or air conditioning units and components. Current
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications in all of the following five
(5) areas listed below:
1. Suspension and Steering Testing
2. Brakes
3. Electrical/Electronic Systems
4. Heating and Air Conditioning
5. Engine Performance

However, deliberate misstatements, omissions, or intentionally withholding required information at any phase of the hiring process will result in a candidate's disqualification regardless of the nature or reason for the misstatement or omission. The primary reason candidates fail a background investigation is due to deliberately withholding or omitting material facts. Providing false and/or misleading information may be grounds for removal from the application and selection process.
