Duties

Help

This position's primary purpose is to provide leadership and/or training and perform journeymen level aircraft mechanic work.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include:

  • Making work assignments, establishing the work flow, and setting the pace for work completion and distributing and balancing the workload.
  • Assuring written instructions and reference materials are available and followed and that safety regulations are complied with.
  • Demonstrating proper work methods and providing technical guidance.
  • Repairing and adjusting a variety of aircraft mechanical systems, components, and assemblies.
  • Tracing and locating defects and determining the type and extend of repair/adjustment needed.
  • Developing pattern and template lay outs, and forming, joining, assembling, and installing various aircraft metal structures.
  • Troubleshooting, modifying, repairing, and testing complex aircraft electrical systems, components, and accessories.
  • Analyzing problems and determining nature and extent of repairs, alignment, or adjustment required for complete system as well as individual equipment and subsystems.

  • May be required to fly on Coast Guard aircraft.

  • Rotating shift work may be required.
  • Occasional Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) is required.
  • Subject to overtime or recall.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:

- Ability to Lead (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT)
- Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
- Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
- Use of measuring instruments
- Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
