Primary Responsibilities
The incumbent provides systems administration and configuration management support for data network hardware and software components for the U.S. House of Representatives’ data infrastructure. Incumbent is a senior technical consultant and contributor on data network systems analysis, integration, implementation, and maintenance projects. At the HS-10 level, the incumbent has a narrower scope of responsibility than at the HS-11 level. At the HS-11 level, the incumbent is competent to work with minimum supervision and has a wider range or responsibilities. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. This position may be required to travel between the Alternate Computing Facility, Data Centers and the Capitol’s campus. This position may require the ability to work shift hours to provide 24 hours a day, 7 days a week technical support for the House's DNS and ISE infrastructure.
Grade level at time of appointment is determined by experience and designated level of responsibility. The position does not have day-to-day managerial responsibilities.
• Monitoring DNS server performance and ensuring the system operates efficiently to provide timely responses to DNS queries.
• Keeping the DNS records up to date, including changes to IP addresses, name servers, and other DNS-related information
• Implementing security measures to protect the DNS infrastructure from potential threats, such as DNS hijacking and denial-of-service attacks
• Registering new domain names and managing existing domain annual renewals for the organization.
• DNS Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving DNS-related issues, such as DNS resolution failures, incorrect DNS records, and DNS cache problems
• Creating backups of DNS configurations and data to facilitate quick recovery in case of system failures or accidental changes
• Collaborating with other IT teams, such as network administrators and system administrators, to ensure seamless integration and functioning of the overall network infrastructure.
ISE/NAC Duties
• Troubleshooting network access issues and NAC-related problems for end-users and devices, ensuring smooth network connectivity and minimal disruptions.
• Configuring the NAC system to authenticate users and devices trying to access the network, and granting appropriate access rights based on their identity, role, or security posture
• Designing, implementing, and enforcing network access policies that define who can access the network, what resources they can access, and under what conditions
• Ensuring that NAC software and associated components are regularly updated with the latest security patches and updates.
NMS Duties
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of NMS configurations, procedures, and standard operating protocols
• Perform regular health checks and maintenance tasks on the NMS platform to ensure its stability and functionality, including software updates, patches, and backups
• Configure and customize alerts and notifications within the NMS to proactively identify and address network faults, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum network availability
• Ensure the security and integrity of the NMS platform by implementing access controls, encryption, and security best practices
Requirements:
• Knowledge of DNS AnyCast and Views.
• Proficiency in working with popular NMS platforms such as Managed Engine , Akips and Alarmsone notification application.
• Strong knowledge of network protocols, routing, switching, and network security concepts.
• Familiarity with network monitoring tools, SNMP, and syslog
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex network issues efficiently
• Proficiency in managing DNS zones and records, including A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, and SRV records, to ensure proper resolution of domain names
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to automate DNS-related tasks and improve efficiency
• In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in managing and administering Domain Name System (DNS) infrastructure is essential. This includes the ability to configure, troubleshoot, and optimize DNS servers and related services
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for interacting with other IT teams, management, and end-users. The ability to maintain clear and comprehensive documentation is also crucial
• Being able to work collaboratively with other IT professionals and participate in cross-functional projects is highly valued.
• Minimum of 03 years of relevant experience.
