About the Position: You will provide Tree Maintenance Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) services in support of the United States Army Garrison, Directorate of Public Works (DPW) at West Point, NY. The Directorate is responsible for the management and oversight of all activities related to maintaining 16,000 acres of property, and roadways.

Duties

Help
  • Prune trees to remove defects and correct physiological growth deficiencies to obtain good symmetrical balance throughout the tree crown.
  • Modify the tree crown in mature trees to retain natural typical species tree form.
  • Utilize judgment to select the less vigorous and poorest limbs and branches for tree removal. Mark trees and plans for regular pruning and removal.
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment around the grounds.
  • Perform routine operator maintenance on all motor vehicles.
  • Use radio and hand signals to communicate with ground personnel.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random drug testing thereafter, to include drug testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Position has been designated "Mission Essential" in the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work to support mission.
  • Position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid Government Motor Vehicle Operator's Identification card (OF346) to operate government vehicles.
  • Position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B. Proof of this certification must be uploaded in application package.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Tree Maintenance Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator)~ without more than normal supervision. Perform common tree maintenance duties to include trimming and removing trees and/or shrubs. Operate hand and powered tools including chain saws, shredder/grinder, shovels, picks, and axes; - Note: this information must be supported in your resume to be considered for this position.   • Physical Efforts: Work requires frequent standing and stretching with powered saws to reach limbs. Incumbent is required to climb trees and hoist them self-up on climbing ropes. Equipment operation requires continuous arm and leg movement. Lifts and moves items weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed outdoors and at heights of up to 100 feet. Incumbent is exposed to the extreme temperatures of the various seasons. Serious injury may occur from falls in the operation of equipment and from being struck by falling branches. Required to wear appropriate safety gear.
