Duties

Help
  • You will complete routine installation, maintenance, and repairs on electric power control equipment, distribution lines, or electric-generating equipment.
  • You will replace wiring, brushes, electrical connections, switchgear components and insulating parts as necessary.
  • You will work from building plans and engineering drawings to repair existing electrical systems, controls, and equipment.
  • You will troubleshoot power distribution systems in the event of a power outage.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is:
1) Performs duties in construction, maintenance and repair of electrical distribution systems (overhead and underground) (120/208 to 34500 KV);
2) Performs work on highly complex system of electronic monitoring and control such as the powerlogic Supervisor Control Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, which uses special purpose dedicated computers.
3) Performs power quality analysis on electrical power systems using complex, micro-processing based analyzer/recorders that utilize analog-to-digital converters, differential-to-single ended converters and software generated programming for specific data acquisition and processing.
4) Manage the power distribution system using the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and other related systesm.

This position performs installations and repair work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms that are occasionally in hard to reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, working in trying and uncomfortable positions, and working from aerial buckets and poles, and in manholes. The incumbent has to handle and lift heavy materials and equipment such as poles, transformers, panel boards, switching gear, reels of cable, etc, that occasionally weigh over 50 pounds.

The work is performed both indoors and outdoors under both hot and cold climatic conditions.
