You will serve as an Operations Research Analyst whose primary purpose is to perform professional and scientific, mathematical principles alone with work requiring systematic, critical, intensive investigation into various subject matter in order to develop the principles, criteria, methods, and data to be used in support of RDC projects or problem solving studies.

Typical work assignments include:
Assessing trends and innovations and staying aware of relevant developmental efforts, noting gaps in knowledge and technology for meeting operational requirements.
Recognizing promising new scientific and technological concepts and findings in their infancy and demonstrates and evaluates their feasibility and applicability to Coast Guard missions.
Performing comprehensive operations research studies and technical review for substantive program initiatives.
Compiling, organizing, and analyzing data/information to find solutions to problems requiring the use of a broad range of operations research methods and techniques.
Provides authoritative technical advice in own area of mathematical analytic, and/or algorithmic expertise that helps execute and support quantitative studies.
Analyzing and establishing the probable value of new technologies and identifying the most fruitful approaches for understanding costly and high risk developmental efforts.
Evaluating contractor efforts to assess technical progress in relation to established schedule and resources allotted.
Providing expert analysis and evaluations to management that encompass programmatic milestones, schedules and execution required for effective management, operations and decision making in support of a project or program area.
Translating and communicating complex scientific and engineering concepts for a wide variety of senior officials, in order to evaluate and facilitate the implementation of operational solutions.
Planning projects to solve technical problems for which definitions, methods, and/or data are highly incomplete, controversial, or uncertain.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements 1515 Series:
Degree: in Operations Research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: AT THE GS-12 LEVEL: To qualify for this position, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis:
Contributing to the development of substantive recommendations to improve agency program operations and management systems;
Under the guidance of senior analyst(s), applies a range of analytical, mathematical, and/or statistical theories, principles, and practices to help plan, coordinate, and execute segments of complex studies;
Under the guidance of senior analyst(s) analyzing the value of new technologies and identifying the most fruitful approaches for understanding costly and high risk developmental efforts;
Conducting simulation experiments, analyzing results, and preparing appropriate technical reports;and
Compiling, organizing, and analyzing data/information to find solutions to problems requiring the use of a broad range of established operations research methods and techniques.

Combination of graduate level education beyond the first 2 years of progressive graduate study and specialized experience that together meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
