Duties

Help

If you are selected for this position, you will perform the following duties:

  • Participate in the drafting, clearing and approval process of major documents that include Congressional reports, response letters from DHHS agencies and other NIH ICs, talking points, information advisories and other high-level documents.
  • Recommend improvements to, and operational strategies for, the currently established controlled correspondence and public inquiry processes.
  • Utilize scientific and other technical knowledge, such as expertise in biology, immunology, virology and genomics, to review, analyze and interpret complex scientific and research program-related materials, reports, congressional and other correspondence and other documents.
  • Provide analyses of substantive scientific program and policy planning.
  • Brief senior NIAID leadership and program officials about matters of scientific and programming content, topics and issues that may be reflected in the dissemination of information to external sources, and recurring and special activities, such as the development of reports, talking points, etc.
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with personnel within NIAID and across NIH and in other federal and non-federal agencies who have responsibility for the planning and conduct of public health and clinical research programs.
  • Participate in interagency projects related to the mission of NIAID.
If you are selected at the GS-11 or GS-12 level, you will essentially perform the same duties as those at the full performance level describes above, however, duties are less complex and will be performed under closer supervisor with more detailed guidance.

Qualifications

In order to quality for the Scientific Information Analyst, position you must meet the following:

Education Requirement:

You must have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.)

In order to qualify for a Scientific Information Analyst, GS-0601 position at the GS-11 level, you must have:

A. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 level because I have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M., if related. OR

B. You must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: managing incoming controlled correspondence for a biomedical research organization; researching news releases and other information resources to assist with responses to correspondence inquiries; preparing reports and other documents to communicate information on scientific and research programs; and assisting with coordinating scientific information and communication programs with other staff and organizations; OR

C. Have combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

In order to qualify for a Scientific Information Analyst, GS-0601 position at the GS-12 level, you must have:

You must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting analysis of trends and/or emerging problems in scientific research that may impact correspondence responses; reviewing scientific research initiatives to identify research priorities; preparing reports, correspondence, and other documents to communicate information information on scientific and research programs; and providing analyses of scientific program and policy issues to senior leaders.

In order to qualify for the Scientific Information Analyst, GS-0601 position at the GS-13 level, you must have:

You must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: analyzing, evaluating, and managing controlled correspondence on scientific programs and policies; analyzing and interpreting scientific and research program materials for a biomedical research organization; recommending improvements and operational strategies on public inquiry response processes; and coordinating scientific information and communication programs with other staff and organizations.
