Help

1. Prepares fruits and vegetables for cooking and serving by washing, peeling, scraping and dicing. Cuts and shreds lettuce, slices tomatoes, cuts and shreds vegetables and opens cans. Portions out food by placing uniform amount in small serving dishes.

2. Cleans equipment in kitchen and dining areas. Washes, dishes, pots, pans, and flatware. Operates mechanical dishwasher. Sweeps, mops, and waxes floors. Disposes of food wastes and trash. Will be responsible for setting up serving carts with food, dishes, and utensils for each meal or snack and deliver them to the appropriate classrooms. Will also collect the same serving carts after each meal or snack. Each cart will be sanitized in preparation for the next meal. Will be responsible for laundering any towels or linens used in the kitchen at the end of each day.

3. Moves heavy garbage cans, and assists in unloading supply trucks and storing heavy supplies.

4. Performs other related duties as assigned. Position is a position of trust.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:
Must be able to follow simple oral instructions, be able to use hand tools for cleaning, and operate simple machines.

Must be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgment in sequencing tasks.

Must have knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving foods, or for cleaning equipment and work area.

Must be physically able to frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 45 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand and walk, and frequently stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for long periods of time.

Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical, installation and state criminal background checks, and National Agency Check with Inquires (NACI).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
