Duties

Help
  • You will serve as Chief Electrician on an automated hopper dredge.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, adjustment, and major/minor repair of electrical machinery
  • Prepare itemized schedules of electrical repairs to be performed during the annual overhaul
  • You will plan and lay out work for subordinate electricians.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of electronic dredging equipment.

  • This is a mandatory drug Testing Designated Position (TDP), in accordance with EP 600-1-300, USACE Drug Testing Procedures for the Army's Drug-Free Federal Workplace (DFW) Program, dated 28 Feb 01.
  • You must possess a current United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with Wiper or higher and a current Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) at time of appointment.
  • You must have or be able to obtain a Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED) with valid Electrician's Endorsement within 24 months of entrance on duty.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Chief Electrician (Direct Hire Authority)~ without more than normal supervision. - You must have the Ability to Lead as a Chief Electrician, WJ-2805-10. You must have the ability or potential ability to take responsibility to lead and direct, furnishing guidance and instructions on how and what tasks are to be accomplished on a daily basis in reference to repairs and monitoring of an automated engine room aboard a seagoing vessel. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed primarily in closed areas with some work outside. Much time is spent in or adjacent to the engine room area with its attendant noise, heat, fumes, etc. Works in very close places and in awkward positions. Employee is subject to the usual hazards, involving shock, strain, burns, cuts, falling from ladders, fumes and heat while working in confined quarters. Incumbent is exposed to the effects of paints, acids, and solvents. Exposed to extremes of weather conditions, heat, and noise. There is danger of slippery decks and drowning. Must wear appropriate safety gear and protective clothing as required, and comply with sound safety practices. May be exposed to hot pipes, escaping steam and the effects of acids, solvents and paint.
  • PHYSICAL EFFORT Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the parts of the system worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Duties require long periods of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, all of which can cause exertion of the lower back. The employee must maintain good lower back physical condition. Incumbent is required to exert moderate to heavy physical effort in handling equipment. Frequently lifts, carries equipment and supplies normally up to 45 lbs and occasionally over 45 lbs., and sets up tools and equipment. Incumbent must possess color perception in order to perform troubleshooting and repair work on the full range of equipment. Lifts and carries Work requires prolonged standing, walking and climbing,
