Duties

Help
  • Fabricate and repair metal, wooden, and cardboard targets.
  • Inspect, test, service, adjust, align, calibrate, install, repair, replace, recondition, troubleshoot, field test and shop test target mechanisms and hit sensor devices.
  • Fabricate and repair electrical power/data cables, hit sensor cable assemblies, hard-wire target control power distribution/switch devices, etc.
  • Perform routine flatwork welding repairs to metal mechanical target mounting devices. Uses oxygen-acetylene welder to heat-treat and straighten target mounting arms, cut repair splices and to join metal surfaces to repair live-fire damage.
  • Follow standard measurements and specifications and use templates or precut material when fabricating and/or repairing metal, wooden and cardboard targets.
  • Operate computer keyboard console to activate target mechanisms and to perform maintenance.
  • Operate four wheel motor vehicles up to and including 2 1/2 ton trucks to transport self, materials and others to worksites.
  • Operate tractor with equipped with mowers, bucket, or blade to perform range maintenance.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to lower graded employees in the performance of assigned duties.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Rotating shift work of duty to cover 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week operations.
  • Pre-employment and annual physicals required to include yearly Respiratory test and respirator fit/tests.
  • Obtain a US Government Motor Vehicle Operators Certification Card (within 90 days of employment).
  • Obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Heavy lifting up to 50 pounds.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Target Devices Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. Performs component repairs for target mechanisms (including defective hardware and parts) and perform troubleshooting of defective wiring and equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort:

  • Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing and working in cramped positions and climbing up and down a steep flight of stairs to reach a 30 foot control tower.
  • Requires prolonged standing on concrete floors and walking over rough and uneven terrain.
  • Light physical effort is used in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls of trucks and tractors.
  • Frequent lifting, positioning and carrying of target mechanisms, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Items weighing in excess of 100 pounds normally involve more than one person.
Working Conditions:
  • Works inside and outside during all types of weather conditions.
  • Stands on concrete floors and works on ranges in rough terrain.
  • Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives.
  • Operates truck and tractor on paved and unimproved roads in all weather conditions.
  • Exposure to excessive noise and smoke.
  • Exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts, burns, electrical shock, falls from 30-foot tower and explosions.
