Summary

This position is in the Medical Genetics and Genomic Medicine Training Program (MGGMTP), Office of the Clinical Director (OCD) and the Medical Genetics Branch (MGB), National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). This position will manage the administrative duties of medical residencies and fellowship programs, ensuring compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards and supporting the program director, residents, and faculty.

Duties

Help

  • Performing a full-range of research experiments and duties in support of the laboratory.
  • Plan and develop experiments and protocols.
  • Recommend methods and develop and/or modify methods and procedures for conducting projects.
  • Develop methods for and collect, organize and record experimental data in a form suitable for publication and future reference.
  • Provide counseling to patients that includes, but is not limited to risk assessment, psychosocial support, referral to local support resources for continuity ofcare, and other tasks necessary to provide comprehensive psychosocial support to affected families.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Geneticist, GS-0440 position, you must have a bachelor's degree in genetics or one of the basic biological sciences that include at least 9 semester hours in genetics; or a graduate degree in a curriculum or pattern of training that placed major emphasis on genetics.

In addition, in order to qualify for a Geneticist, GS-0440 position at the GS-11 level, you must have:

A. 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education in Genetics, or with a curriculum or pattern of training that placed a major emphasis on genetics, leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree;

OR

B. 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: assisting in providing genetic counseling to patients; performing studies on the heritability and psychological consequences of genetic diseases; developing research studies and protocols involving human subjects; making recommendations based on the evaluation and analysis of research programs.

OR

C. a combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

  • F1: Knowledge in applying, advanced theories, principles, concepts, practices, standards, and methods of the genetics field.
  • F2: Ability to develop clinical research studies and to modify or develop new protocols.
  • F3: Skill in directing and coordinating research protocols involving human subjects.
  • F4: Ability to provide genetic counseling to patients.
