STATEMENT OF DIFFERENCE: This position's pay level is NA-08/10/11.
MAJOR DUTIES: NA08 Grade Level: The work at this grade involves making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures such as broken and bare wiring, burned out switches and relays, loose connections and fittings, and damaged light fixtures. Works from job layouts, work sequences, and material requirements that have been determined by an employee of higher level. Requires a knowledge of where fixtures, wiring, and controls, such as light switches, circuit breakers, fuses, relays, and outlets, are installed and how they operate. Incumbent must have the ability to read and follow wiring diagrams that specify where wiring, fixtures, and controls are installed or are to be hooked up and show the type of wiring, fittings, and equipment installed or to be used. Must have skill in the use of hand tools and portable power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wirecutters, strippers, drills, soldering irons, and manual or power conduit benders and threaders; and a limited variety of test equipment. Works under direct supervision/instruction for twenty four (24) months at a minimum rating of meets expectations on the employee performance appraisal, to qualify for the NA10 grade level.
NA10 Grade Level: Performs all duties of the above NA08 with a greater understanding of work planning and the following major duties: Incumbent installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests, and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, associated fixtures, controls and equipment as a skilled journeyman level.
Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering, drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, replacement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines and lighting, circuits, systems, equipment and controls. In comparison with the NA8 grade electrical workers who work on residential wiring or limited portions of industrial circuitry, electricians at the NA10 grade must have a greater knowledge of how various electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls are installed, operate, and work together to support industrial operations, computer complexes, or similar complex electrical loads.
Works under limited supervision/instruction for an additional twenty four (24) months at a minimum rating of meets expectations on the employee performance appraisal to qualify for the NA11 grade level.
NA11 Grade Level: Incumbent performs all duties and responsibilities of the position description at a level above the NA10 grade level major duties and with minimal to no supervision.
Must have basic working knowledge of electrical circuitry to include construction, installation, operation and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
Basic understanding of electrical schematics and blueprints.
Must have skill in the use of hand tools and portable power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, drills, soldering irons, and manual or power conduit benders and threaders; and a limited variety of test equipment.
Must have the skill needed to measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit to specified lengths and angles.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS GRADE 10:
Must have successfully completed the Penn Foster Career School Residential Electrician Course OR possess an electrician's license.
Must have a greater knowledge of how various electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls are installed, operate, and work together to support industrial operations, computer complexes, or similar complex electrical loads.
Must have skill in planning and laying out work, tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems and completing repairs and installations with little or no advice.
Skilled in testing, repairing, modifying, installing, slicing, soldering, insolating, replacing electrical conduit and / or relays.
Must be skilled in reading, maintaining and understanding various types of electrical equipment used to troubleshoot, test and repair electrical fixture or equipment.
A valid Government Owned Vehicle (GOV) operator's permit is required for the performance of duties for this position. Inability to obtain or maintain appropriate GOV licensing will result in termination for lack of qualifications. The incumbent is required to obtain required GOV licenses within 30 days of hire.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS GRADE 11:
Must have thorough working knowledge of sophisticated electrical circuitry to include construction, installation, operation and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
Knowledge in planning layouts, draft sketch and of electrical constructions, evaluating and estimating man hours and material for minor or capital constructions.
Skilled in testing, repairing, modifying, installing, slicing, soldering, insolating, replacing electrical conduit and / or relays.
Must be skilled in reading, maintaining and understanding various types of electrical equipment used to troubleshoot, test and repair electrical fixture or equipment.
Must have the ability to independently layout electrical circuitry, installation wiring diagram, install strain gauge circuits and modify diagram to meet National Electrical Code.
Must have knowledge of danger signs and intricate warnings of meet electrical malfunction or defective equipment (i.e. power relay, conduit, and switches.
Must be a qualified journeyman or a minimum of 5 years experience in the area of electrical trade.
Must have of obtain 14 hours of Operations & Maintenance to include 2 hours of Asbestos Awareness Training.
