About the Position: You will provide technical support to the Wildlife Biologist and assist with implementing the wildlife management program. You will observe, collect data, and protect wildlife and their habitat. Requires long periods of standing and walking over rough terrain, and operation and travel in a small watercraft.

Help
  • Assist with preparing detailed wildlife management plans.
  • Implement non-standard techniques for sampling wildlife populations.
  • Conduct field surveys to collect data on turtles, amphibians, rare plants, waterfowl, raptors, songbird nesting structures, and bats.
  • Conduct tagging, telemetry, surveys and nest searches for Northwestern pond turtles.
  • Create databases for compiling, computing and summarizing data.
  • Collect, or direct acquisition of GPS data on natural resource features.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license.
  • This position requires an additional State Background Investigation.
  • This position requires a USACE Boat/Vessel Operators license within 6 mos.
  • You may be required to operate motor vessels up to 26 feet in length.
  • This position requires shift work on nights and/or weekends, depending on project.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work outdoors, in remote areas, over water, in adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience or education requirements requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualified applicants will describe in their resume at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in federal service with wildlife research, monitoring, or evaluation that included control program work in the fisheries and wildlife field, using a formal and documented process for observing and recording activity, and entering the data into a system/database.

Have completedone full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Biology, Ecology, Zoology or related sciences.
OR
Have a combination of education and experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
