This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: In this position, you will serve as a senior Engineering Technician (Drafting)/CAD Technician in the Engineering andConstruction Division, Design Branch, performing technical design and drafting assignments with the use ofComputer Aided Design/Drafting (CAD) tools.

Duties

Help
  • At the full performance level you will:
  • Develop preliminary and final detailed drawings.
  • Prepare design site layouts, cross sections and details of civil project features.
  • Work in teams to prepare reports and contract documents.
  • Attend field visits as necessary to take measurements and perform inspections.
  • Exercise a working knowledge of applicable industry standards, codes, practices, and CAD software.
  • Serve as an expert in 3 dimensional solids and surface modeling software and standards.
  • Mentor engineers and other technicians in the proper use of 3D modeling.
  • Create models, contract plans, sections, and details under the general guidance of engineers, and sometimes with limited information.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications GS-10:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) developing detailed CAD (Computer Aided Design) models and contract drawings; and 2.) supporting engineers with drawing and modeling efforts for assigned projects.

Minimum Qualifications GS-11:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) developing final and detailed CADD (Computer Aided Design/Drafting) models and drawings of engineering features for a variety of civil works related projects such as fish facilities, hydropower projects, spillway gates, and recreational facilities;2.) supporting updates to record drawings in collaboration with Project site personnel; and/or 3.) managing drawing databases (Vault) for assigned projects.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
