Duties

Help
  • Participate in the development of planning documents for management of natural resources.
  • Coordinate short and long range planning and execution in recreation and park administration.
  • Coordinate short and long range planning and execution in vegetation management, pest control, and forest management.
  • Coordinate short and long range planning and execution in boundary surveillance, mapping, and physical security.
  • Coordinate short and long range planning and execution in public education, interpretation, visitor assistance, and public safety (including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid).
  • Prepare documents pertaining to leasing and managing project lands. Evaluate proposed real estate actions and perform outgrant inspections.
  • Enforce Title 36 CFR by educating the visiting public on project purposes, conditions, policies, and regulations.
  • Patrol project lands and waters to prevent unauthorized use, trespass, unsafe activities and destruction of project land, water, facilities, and other environmental resources.
  • Support a wide variety of partners in joint endeavors, including but not limited to local law enforcement/fish and game authorities, emergency response needs, federal, state and local governmental and non-governmental entities.
  • Inspect and perform minor maintenance as needed on facilities including playgrounds, restrooms, trails, campground areas, boat ramps, picnic areas, signs and wayside exhibits.

In order to qualify, you must meet the basic requirement and education or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement:
A Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
A Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

** In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the minimum qualification requirements listed below:

Minimum Qualifications at the GS-05: The basic degree requirements listed above qualify you for placement at the GS-05 level.

Minimum Qualifications at the GS-07:
Qualified applicants will describe in their resume at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in federal service with monitoring visitor activity, and coordinating recreational services with community organizations, and enforcing park rules and regulations.
OR
Have completed one full academic year of graduate-level education with major study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Have completed an undergraduate degree with major study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) AND obtained Superior Academic Achievement based upon: (1) Class Standing - You must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR (2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.) - You must have a grade-point average of either (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.; OR (3) Honor Society Membership - You may be considered eligible based on membership in one of the approved national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies (https://www.achsnatl.org/). OR
Have a combination of education and experience: To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)


Minimum Qualification at the GS-09:Qualified applicants must describe in their resume at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in federal service with natural resources management, visitor assistance, and enforcing park rules and regulations.
OR
Have completed a masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education with major study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Have a combination of education and experience: To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
