Summary

NCCIH funds and conducts research to help answer important scientific and public health questions about complementary health approaches. NCCIH works to determine what is promising, what helps and why, what doesn't work, and what is safe. As a Scientific Program Analyst you will participate in the planning, organization, and execution of activities that support the scientific research and administrative activities of the Division and NCCIH.

Duties

Help
  • Responsible for planning, coordination, and implementation activities for assigned research programs and the management and evaluation of grant applications
  • Participates in the development of Program Announcements, Requests for Applications, and Requests for Proposals in areas of research.
  • Monitors the status of project applications and awards from peer review through post-award administration and produces documents and responses to requests for information required.
  • Assists in planning and execution of analytic research projects and researches the quality of methodologies and measures pertinent to the assessment and summarization of the research findings by grantees and applicants.
  • Identifies inadequacies and inconsistencies in data and informs higher-level specialists or program staff of data issues.
  • Analyzes and prepares the more complex aspects of these studies that require more sophisticated methodology.
  • Uses electronic databases to conduct programmatic analyses and advises program staff on issues related to the program, attends scientific review meetings, and communicates key issues to program staff.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: In order to qualify for a Scientific Program Analyst, GS-0601, position you must possess a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: For the GS-0601-12 Level:

To qualify for this position at the GS-12 level, you must have least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Monitoring the status of research project applications and grant awards; carrying out assigned segments of complex studies covering a wide range of scientific research topics; analyzing data from scientific research studies and drafting technical reports; and providing support to scientific staff in managing research resources and programmatic evaluation of funded grants.

For the GS-0601-13 Level: To qualify for this position at the GS-13 level, you must have least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Providing technical advice on conducting epidemiologic health research studies and analysis; evaluating and monitoring scientific research project and grant applications; analyzing and compiling scientific data, preparing technical reports, and facilitating the publication of scientific study results; identifying issues and making recommendations for program direction and priorities based on scientific research data and analyses; and serving as organization representative on various internal and external working groups and committees.
