Help
  • You will independently develop work functions and procedures that will meet the requirements in support of academic curriculum and research projects.
  • You will integrate modular computer systems hardware and software to build special purpose computer systems and computer based control systems.
  • You will instruct midshipmen on techniques of design, construction and debugging of control systems, electronics, computer hardware and software projects in the areas of research, design projects, labs and TRIDENT projects.
  • You will administer contracts dealing with installation and maintenance of computer equipment and software and supervises acceptance of computer and laboratory equipment.
  • You will assist faculty in preparing annual and long range departmental budgets (both investment and operations – except salaries) and administers expending of funds for labs, logistics, consumables, ADP equipment, and non-ADP equipment.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  1. Using computer peripherals, sensors, controllers such as A/D and D/A converters, 12C bus based networks, serial 1/0 and parallel 1/0, shaft encoders, PWM modules, analog servo controllers, stepper motor controllers, sensor interfaces, robot controllers, and electronic compasses to support an electronic laboratory;
  2. Designing their projects that students work on to learn electronics;
  3. Designing and developing circuit/software computer systems for a systems engineering laboratory that is used to teach students in an academic classroom.

This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Work can range from sedentary to significant walking and moving about the building and Academy grounds. Physical activity may include but is not limited to climbing steps, ladders, bending and carrying IT related items and test equipment. Must be capable of lifting 40lbs multiple times in a short period and lifting computer systems and equipment from floor to shelves and carts.

Work is primarily performed in an office setting although field work is occasionally required. The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions, dust, dirt, unusual odors, solvents, soldering (rosin vapor and high temperatures), humidity and occasionally uncomfortable temperatures. Exposure to radio frequencies, low power laser light, lubricants, lead based solder, etc. The incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, bumps, etc. The tasks may involve discomfort while wearing respirators, aprons, gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, or other protective equipment as required by changing assignments. The work may involve contact with various toxic chemicals and gases, dusts, dirt, slippery conditions etc.

Accomplishment of assigned duties may require the incumbent to work other than normal duty hours.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
