Summary

About the Position: This position is in the Laboratory Department within the 1st Special Operations Medical Group located on Hurlburt Field, Florida. The Laboratory is a fast paced environment serving Active Duty military personnel, their family members, and retirees. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week Monday through Friday during regular business hours.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation utilizing DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce.

Duties

Help
  • Conducts front desk administrative operations utilizing the current military electronic healthcare records system.
  • Performs specimen collection via venipuncture, capillary, or heel sticks.
  • Ensures proper collection and labeling of all samples. Rejects samples not meeting acceptable collection requirements.
  • Notifies patients whose specimens must be recollected in a professional and timely manner.
  • Operates centrifuge, pipettes, caps and uncaps tubes, while using personal protective equipment.
  • Receives specimens collected outside of the laboratory and ensures appropriateness for test requested.
  • Provides initial aid when a patient has an adverse reaction to phlebotomy procedure or administered material (i.e. glucola drinks for glucose tolerance testing).
  • Fax results to ordering physician's office.
  • Answers telephones using professionalism and proper telephone etiquette.
  • Uses various computer software (i.e. Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Provides training to newly assigned personnel.

  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required. Childcare Background Check (regular contact with children or adolescents)

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes (a) performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR

Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Phlebotomy.


OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
