Summary

As a Supervisory Security Specialist, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and evaluating policies, regulations, plans, and procedures governing personnel security and suitability information agency-wide.

Location of position: Office of Mission Assurance, Personnel Security Branch, Washington, DC.

Help

You will perform the following duties:

  • Coordinates the development and implementation of policies, regulations, procedures, and standards relating to the personnel security and suitability programs.
  • Oversees implementation of the personnel security and suitability programs.
  • Manages the program that refers to investigative reports and develop issues, and oversees suitability determinations.
  • Serves as a liaison to high-ranking program personnel within the agency to convey information regarding program activities, related agency policies and goals; to clarify procedures; and to write or interpret directives and handbooks and/or other governing regulations as needed.
  • Plan, direct, assign, lead, and monitor the work of the team.
  • Distributes and balances tasks among employees, assures timely accomplishment of the assigned tasks, and assures that each employee has an integral role in developing the final product.

This position has job functions that must be executed within a specific geographic location. The official duty station is a federal facility, leased space, or an alternative worksite (typically the employee’s home). Positions include routine telework and remote work arrangements that are geographically specific to: Washington, DC.

If selected, you must meet the following conditions:

  • Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C or Non­Career SES employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the HR Office. Failure to disclose this information could result in disciplinary action including removal from Federal Service.
  • Undergo and pass a background investigation (Tier 5 investigation level).  You must be granted this clearance before you can start the job.
  • Serve a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period, if required
  • Any applicant tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Appointment to the position will be contingent upon a negative drug test result.

The GS-14  salary range starts at $139,395 per year.  

To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience in the development of directives such as policies and procedures related to personnel security; suitability and adjudicative determinations, including adjudication of reports of investigation; and critical operations planning for the personnel and information security of an organization.

How you will be evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

You will be scored on the questions you answer during the application process, which will measure your possession of the following competencies or knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Your responses to these questions must be supported by your resume or your score may be lowered.

  • Knowledge of government policies, directives, and other regulatory materials to direct and lead a wide range of administrative and technical in the execution of regional and/or national security affecting various security programs.
  • Knowledge of investigative, fact-finding, and evaluation practices and techniques pertaining to personnel security.
  • Ability to communicate information, ideas and advice in a clear, concise and logical manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervise subordinates, manage work assignments and analyze/evaluate job performance.

Additional hurdle assessments, such as narrative responses or other assessments, may be administered to applicants who meet the requirements of the first hurdle, e.g., the minimum qualification requirements. If additional assessments are used, you will be provided with further instructions.
