Lead and conduct vegetation inventories, population and community monitoring.
Monitor sensitive and invasive species.
Implement plans for the protection and enhancement of habitat for special status plants, and for the control of noxious weeds or other invasive species.
Provide technical support for vegetation management, plant propagation and habitat restoration projects.
Conduct outreach and environmental educational programs.
Organize staff, contractors, and cooperators, including high school conservation programs and correctional work crews, in plant propagation or vegetation management activities.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Basic Requirement for a Botanist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in botany; or basic plant science that included at least 24 semester hours in botany.
OR Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in botany or basic plant science that included at least 24 semester hours in botany, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in federal service with field experience in Pacific Northwest plant identification and plant community characterization. OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as botany, plant anatomy or morphology, cytology, histology, genetics, taxonomy or systematics, algology, mycology, ethnobotany, and those dealing with specific problems of a botanical nature or with specific groups of plants. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
