In this position, you will perform shore facilities maintenance (including preventative) and minor construction and repair of the utility systems, equipment, structures, mechanical and electrical aspects of machinery, equipment and related systems; roads, grounds, piers, Coast Guard owned housing and certain items not of a mechanical nature but requiring similar skill and knowledge.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
Measuring, cutting and constructing or repairing wood or wood substitutes such as scaffolds, shoring, panels, pallets, concrete forms, dry wall, sheathing and roof decking for docks, piles, camel systems, and buildings.
Removing, replacing, tightening, splicing and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment and fixtures such as broken or bare wire, burned out switches or relays, loose connections and fittings, damaged light fixtures, and poorly operating thermostats.
Making repairs by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing and sealing defective parts of sprinkler, potable water and sanitary sewer systems, such as installing new pipe or replacing old, repairing leaking pipes and unclogging drains.
Heating and ventilation equipment and systems; refrigeration and galley equipment; rollup doors; water cooler repair; and washing machine and dryer repair.
Repairing metal handrails; cutting and placing reinforcement bar; cutting, bending and installing all types of sheet metals; and repair simple metal parts and components of machinery equipment.
Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
This position requires occasional travel.
The position requires a valid state driver's license.
