Duties

Help

The mission of the Cadet Division is the development of all cadets across athletic, academic, and military domains.  As Chief, Cadet Affairs Branch, you will deliver programs and services that foster cadet success.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Providing supervision to five direct reports.
  • Directing the planning and integration of clubs, activities, councils and other divisional programs that support the social/emotional well-being of cadets.
  • Collaborating across all segments of the institution to build and sustain programs, services and networks of support for cadets.
  • Serving as a supporting services contact for crisis intervention with cadets.
  • Remaining engaged in all aspects of the cadet experience, including daily activities and operations, conduct and discipline, and cadet regimental drills, ceremonies, and physical fitness.
  • Providing subject matter expertise, best practices and partnering relationships to the staff of the Leadership Development Center i their support of the wellbeing, resilience and mental health of the resident trainees particularly in Officer Candidate School.
  • Overseeing the successful operation of CGA Clubs and activities, Vocal & Instrumental Music Activities, Class Councils, Yearbook, Sponsor Family Program, International Cadets, Core Values Remediation Program, Cadet Honor Board and Etiquette.
  • Coordinating closely as the representative from Cadet Division for functions related to:  Affinity Councils, Alumni Relations, Admissions, Parents' Association and Academic Affairs.

Qualifications

Qualifications for GS-13:  One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level is required.   Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Examples include:  applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of an educational program;  planning, scheduling, and conducting projects and studies to evaluate and recommend ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of an educational program setting, Making recommendations for improvement; and application of leadership development practices and principles.
 

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Selectee(s) for this position who are current federal employees on permanent appointments and will be moving outside of the current commuting area of their current position to accept this position are authorized to receive a one-time relocation bonus of 10% of the salary including locality for this position. Receipt of the bonus will require a 12 month service agreement. The employee must establish a residence in the new geographic area prior to payment.

This is a supervisory position, under provisions of the Civil Service Reform Act, first time supervisors and/or managers will be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
