Duties

Help

As a ELECTRONICS MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32), WS-2604-11, you will be responsible for supervising workers directly or through subordinate leaders and/or supervisors in accomplishing the work of the function.

Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:

  • Investigate work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes.
  • Implement corrective actions within their authority to resolve work problems.
  • Recommend solutions to staffing problems, engineering requirements, and work operations directed by other supervisors.
  • Determine training needs of subordinates and arranges for accomplishment.
  • Set performance standards and makes formal appraisals of subordinate work performance.
  • Initiate recommendations for promotion or reassignment of subordinates.
  • Plan and establish overall leave schedules.
  • Plan use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis.
  • Establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plan work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by the supervisor.
  • Determine the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects.
  • Redirect individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. This is required prior to the effective date of placement. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.

  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), the only area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.

Military Grades: Enlisted/Warrant Officer - Minimum Rank E6 - Maximum Rank CW4

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; ability to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WS -11 Level MUST possess comprehensive knowledge of operating electronic principles such as circuit elements, digital logic, microprocessors, core memory, interface circuits, digital data transmission, microwave, antennas, signal behavior, amplification, and display; ability to troubleshoot, install, repair and maintain malfunctions in complex electronic systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of individual circuits, and the possible interaction of other circuits which create a malfunction; knowledge of timing circuits, pulse forming networks, etc.; extensive knowledge of electromechanical servo systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical and electric motor systems for antenna control; a thorough working knowledge of satellite power, frequency and bandwidth utilization, and the power sharing properties of a satellite transponder; skill in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete systems to recognize the function and interconnections of the various assemblies and troubleshoot the system from the schematic, following signal paths through a complex path of interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and connecting cable harnesses; skill to modify systems by adding, altering, or removing components in order to standardize or alter the purpose of the equipment or to incorporate new features developed since the equipment was manufactured.

SPECIALIZED SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE: MUST possess specialized supervisory experience which includes, in addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel; experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines; experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function; experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes; experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
