Major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Managing a comprehensive interior design program, which includes acoustical performance, appropriate ergonomics, adequate lighting, and color coordination, interior, exterior, and community wayfinding (signage).
  • Developing, maintaining, and implementing the interior design three-year plan by establishing priorities, evaluating requests, and developing long and short-term interior improvement and furniture replacement plans.
  • Preparing conceptual drawings, floor plans, finish schedules, furniture replacement schedules, delivery schedules, and related estimated costs.
  • Coordinating furniture requirements for activation of major, minor, NRM, and station level renovations.
  • Administering the interior sign program that includes the procurement and placement of all interior signs.
  • Gathering pertinent input data from inter-product lines sources.
  • Participating in the initial space planning to ensure space is adequate for furnishings that are needed.
  • Initiating and aiding in development of station construction projects within Engineering and those originated by other product lines and staff of the Medical Center.
  • Administering service contracts for interior design projects such as with the installation of artwork, carpet, drapery, custom millwork and system furniture.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications

IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-11 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Interior Designer position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is experience that required the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as: Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment; Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings; Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public; Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context; Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.)

EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION:
You must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M., if related, with major study in interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design; or passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of full-time study. If that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours will be considered an academic year of graduate study. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. COMBINATION OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
You must have an equivalent combination of creditable specialized experience and graduate education (beyond the second year) as described above to meet the total requirements for the position. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE AND COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The majority of work requires only moderate physical effort. At times the employee will be required to stand long periods of time, walk a lot, stoop, bend, climb, crawl, work in cramped and awkward positions. Must have good eyesight, depth, and color perception.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
