Performs EMT duties by identifying and treating trauma and/or medical emergencies using knowledge and skill in emergency medicine techniques.
Performs a range of diagnostic support duties using acquired knowledge of the major body systems to provide patient care and ensure appropriate patient handling.
Assists with moving, lifting, and carrying patients to emergency vehicles and appropriate treatment facility. Performs safety and maintenance inspection on emergency and patient transport vehicles and equipment.
Conducts complete assessment using advance knowledge of topographic anatomy, knowledge of major body systems, knowledge of emergency medical techniques.

General Schedule Qualification Standard Link: Health Aid and Technician Series 0640 (opm.gov) Individual Occupational Requirements: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
For the GS-03 level:Your resume must demonstrate at least Six (6) months of General Experience; that provided a familiarity with the subject matter of the position to be filled.
OR Education in place of experience: Successful completion of 1 year of education above high school that included study in medical, health, or related fields. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. Or, Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-03 grade level.
For the GS-04 level: Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of general experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter of the position to be filled AND 6 months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-3 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience in a technical or support nature in the field of health and medicine such as, recording height/weight; applying sterile dressings; preparing patients for evaluation and treatment; restocking medical supplies; ensuring that medical equipment is in proper operating condition. OR Education in place of experience: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. Or, combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-04 grade level.
**For the GS-05 level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience assisting with methods, techniques and protocols in the Emergency Medical Services. Includes taking vitals, patient movement, collecting data on scene to provide detailed reports. Communicating with team members and medical personnel to provide and receive important information about the patient's condition. OR Education in place of experience: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school.
