SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: Works under the supervision of the warehouse manager who provides general instructions, standard procedures, overall priorities and policies, and who relies on the incumbent to control work operations and accomplish an adequate quantity and quality of work. Work is reviewed for efficient and economical accomplishment of assigned tasks within priorities and controls.
MAJOR DUTIES: Supervises the warehousing staff involved in receipt, storage, and issuance of materials in a large warehouse operation for internal consumption. Responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing work. Determines the sequence, priority and time needed for the accomplishment of tasks to fulfil the mission needs of the organization within the limits of work schedules and deadlines.
PLANNING: Plans the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, materials, and tools on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Establishes deadlines, priorities, work schedules. Plans work assignments based on customer demand or other requirements, applying methods or policies set by the supervisor. Advises supervisor of the need to adjust schedules or resources to meet future demand. Participates in the budget formulation process providing recommendations on resources and staffing.
WORK DIRECTION: Assigns work and provides technical direction to subordinates. Investigates work related problems such as unexplained shrinkage, excessive cost, or low productivity. Determines causes and recommends or take corrective action to resolve problems. Recommends solutions to staffing, warehousing, and operations to accomplish the mission.
ADMINISTRATION: Supports and explains management programs to subordinates such as EEO and workplace safety. Initiates recruitment and staffing actions, recommends promotions or reassignments, makes selections, evaluates performance, counsels, and disciplines. Participates in grievance resolutions and informal complaints. Determines training needs, ensures staff is trained. Plans for and approves leave. Maintains work reports and provides data as required.
